Dr. Anita Goel is a scientist who works where physics, biology, and medicine meet. She believes that life and consciousness, run on the same strange rules that control atoms and light in quantum physics.
Most of today’s physics looks at non-living things, like planets, machines, or rocks. They don’t change much. But living systems are very different. They eat, breathe, and share energy and information with their surroundings. Dr. Goel says we need a new type of physics that can explain living things.

Tiny Machines Inside Us
Inside every cell in your body are tiny nanomachines that read and copy your DNA. Dr. Goel calls them “molecular motors.” These engines are almost 100% efficient. And they are much better than a car engine! She wonders if they use quantum powers to work so well.
She and her team study how these little machines use quantum algorithms to find the right DNA pieces quickly. If true, it would mean the body works like a quantum computer on a microscopic level.
The Biological Double-Slit Test
In physics, there’s a famous experiment called the double-slit test. It showed that tiny particles behave like both waves and particles. Dr. Goel wants to do something similar with living molecules. She hopes this will prove that DNA-reading machines can act like quantum systems too.
This “biological double-slit” experiment can show that quantum effects are part of life itself.

Life Is Like Music
Dr. Goel says life is like music played on the piano of DNA. Your body’s DNA gives the notes, but your environment plays them. That’s why two people with the same DNA can have different health. The world around them, stress, food, light, changes the tune.
This idea leads to a big thought: maybe evolution isn’t only random, as Charles Darwin said. Maybe the environment can “talk” to DNA, more Lamarck-like idea, where living things can adjust to their surroundings over time.
Consciousness: A Key to Everything
Some scientists say consciousness just “appears” when matter becomes complex, like in the human brain. Dr. Goel asks: what if consciousness is even deeper? What if it’s part of the universe itself, like space or time?
She imagines flipping the story: maybe matter, energy, and space come from consciousness, not the other way around. If true, this would change how we see science, life, and even ourselves.
The Future: A Fifth Revolution
We had four big revolutions – machines, electricity, computers, and the internet. Dr. Goel believes the next one will mix science and consciousness. It would bring together quantum physics, biology, AI, and awareness.
This new “fifth industrial revolution” can give rise to smarter, kinder technologies. These tools care about the world. It can unite science and spirituality, helping people feel connected again with nature and each other.
Dr. Goel’s dream is to make a science that joins body, mind, and universe into one story. She wants physicists to look at life and consciousness as real science.
If her ideas are right, we can one day find out that the same quantum patterns shaping the stars also shape our thoughts, feelings, and heartbeat.
