Look around you. What do you see? A world chasing materialistic insanity. A race where everyone runs endlessly to be the one. The one with a small gain over another, measured in wealth, possessions, or ego.
It is a comfortable trap. We often turn to external things to fill the quiet discontent hidden deep inside us.
These things give us a spark of happiness, yet we keep falling for new versions of the same. Are they worth an entire lifetime?
We justify this race as survival. With limited natural resources, we compete to grab as much as possible, echoing Darwin’s theory of evolution.
But we call ourselves intellectual beings. We have the mind and the power of conscious thought. Shouldn’t we ask how much we actually need to survive, instead of endlessly grabbing more? We are only visitors here, with an average lifespan of 79 years. We too are part of nature, and we belong to it. This truth cannot be denied.

Insanity
Materialistic insanity distracts us. It lures us into comfort.
The more we chase it, the deeper we trap ourselves. We begin thinking of how to increase what we own and how to protect it from others.
This is how we misuse intelligence. Materialism does bring momentary happiness, and ego magnifies the thrill of owning something. But pause for a moment. Are we truly happy inside? Or are we projecting a show of happiness to the outside world?
Often, this conduct only feeds a fragile ego. We are never content for long. We search for more, again and again. Our inner happiness remains at risk, always dependent on the next possession.
Isn’t this unkind to ourselves? Isn’t it a waste of time to keep feeding ego and discontent? Materialism can never quench the thirst for happiness.
Desire fulfilled only gives birth to another desire. This cycle never ends.
A Simpler Way
We must learn to be mindful of our needs and clear about our wants. The logic is simple. The more we have, the more we suffer. And the less we hold on to materialism, the more space we create for joy to grow from within.
Letting go takes time. It means disowning the illusion that we “own” things, whether big or small. When we step away from materialistic folly, we make room for peace. We allow ourselves to flourish in happiness.
Exercise for Today
Ask yourself honestly: How trapped are you in materialistic insanity?
We are all shaped by it. Perhaps it was taught as the way to live comfortably. But comfort is not the same as inner peace. Possessions do not satisfy us from within. They only give rise to more desires.
It is time to choose differently. Live with what is necessary. Own your mindful way of living, instead of letting materials own you.
Remember, we take nothing with us when we die. What we can take is peace, and that comes only by freeing ourselves from materialistic insanity.
